It sounds to me like the negative reviewers need to put the crack pipe down. I am an avid G-Shock collector, and wear a blue and yellow DW-9052 daily. I have put the 9052 through hell and it looks the same as the day I put it on. If the display starts to fade when trying to access the light or other features then you need to change the battery. If that doesn't work, then it is probably the wrong battery ,or wrong instillation, or you probably just broke it because you didn't know what you were doing. It doesn't matter what model you choose, if it says G-Shock, you have made the right choice.

I purchased this watch for my 11 year old son. Although it was more than I wanted to spend on a watch for him, it beats buying several cheap ones. It is very durable, shock & water resistant, and has an atomic clock, so he doesn't even have to set it himself. [...]

Used a gift card to buy this watch. Cost me out of pocket $13. Good watch for the money. One thing it does not do is turn baclight on when pressing other buttons.

The watch seems to be a very accurate and reliable timepiece. (losing approximately 1 second a week.) I am used to setting my watches weekly but after this purchase I have found myself setting it more like monthly, or bimonthly. This is my first G-Shock purchase, and was looking for something that was very waterproof, and obviously shock proof. This seemed to be my best bet for the price. (didn't want to fork out the money on a frogman) The reason I chose G-Shock is that I demand extreme performance and functionality from all of the accessories that I carry with me on a daily basis, from my EDC knifes, Firearms, cell phones, to my watches. So far the watch has delivered, meeting and exceeding my expectations for the product. After reading the other reviews I was hesitant to purchase this product, but figured that the people that where having such a hard time with the watch are the 13 year old boys who think its cool show their friends that they can throw their watch up against a wall and it will not break, or drop it in their soda while at a restaurant just for a few laughs. You can't expect anything to function properly after a certain amount of abuse. Even a chunk of solid steel would get deformed and broken with enough abuse. For now the watch has performed great under what I would call a moderate amount of abuse. (drops, shock from firing a weapon, submersion in water probably no more than 10 feet, and a few hard core slams into walls and railings.) The watch looks great and functions even better. My only complaint is that the band is not the absolute perfect size for me, but that is expected with any watch.

For $40 (or under...I got it for $38 from Amazon) you can't go wrong. Strong, reliable and dependable. The only 'little' downside I've found is that the watch band will wear out normally in about 2-3 years but is easily replaced with a sport's Velcro band. G-Shock is ideal for police, firefighters, military and the outdoors type.
